Did you know?

Mr. Duggal says the one place where he finds some degree of anonymity is India. No body recognizes him here, and very few people know that his name is synonymous with photos and image making. He says that when he travels to other parts of the world people instantly recognize him when they hear his last name.

Mr. Duggal is partial to tastefully plated food, and often frequents Danny Meyer's Gramcery Tavern located near his office.

Baldev Duggal is a legend in the world of photography. This is what the New York Times said about Duggal Visual Solution: " One of the country’s largest production and computer imaging facilities." The company is a pioneer in the photo imaging industry.

I met with Mr. Duggal in his Manhattan office where we spoke about his work and company. In Part-I of our conversation Mr. Duggal talks about how he started his business and his technical innovation that revolutionized the world of photography. He invented the "dip and dunk" method about 40 years ago while working out of his bathroom in his Manhattan apartment.

Mr. Duggal founded Duggal Visual Solution in 1961 in an area that eventually came to be referred to as the photo district located in mid-town Manhattan. Mr. Duggal's company is the anchor point around which other photo labs were established. Baboo Color Labs, Manhattan Color, Coloredge are some of the color labs in the area, whose founders at one time or the other worked with Mr. Duggal.

Duggal Visual Solutions is known for its high-tech precision craftsmanship writes Lou Jacobs Jr. Mr. Duggal's company works with some of the best photographers, museums's, advertising companies and publications in the world. Chances are that you have seen a Duggal creation either in a magazine, or a bill board or in a museum.

Mr. Duggal was born and brought up in Punjab, and he migrated to the USA in 1951. His interest in photography developed when his grandfather, who had a photography and watch shop gave him a Kodak brownie camera.

Mr. Duggal lives and works in Manhattan, New York.
