In Conversation With Gita Mehta

Gita Mehta has a new book called Eternal Ganesha. The book will be available in bookstores in the USA from October 1, 2006.

Eternal Ganesha is an illustrated coffee table book that provides an updated and comprehensive story of Ganesha, along with the cultural and political underpinnings of the Remover of Obstacle's role in Indian society.

In the book Gita points out, "Mathematicians acknowledge him (Ganesha) as the power of numbers. He is the first cause. Philosophers acknowledge him as the power of thought." (p.125)

Gita Mehta’s previous books include: Karma Cola (1979); Raj (1989); A River Sutra (1993) and Snakes and Ladders (1997).

Gita was born in Delhi and belongs to a well-known political family. Her father Biju Patnaik was a freedome figther and the Chief Minister of Orissa twice, and her brother Naveen Patnaik is the current Chief Minster of Orissa.

She is married to Ajai Singh "Sonny" Mehta president and editor-in-chief of Alfred A Knopf, the publishing company.

Gita divides her time between US, UK and India.
