Alok Mittal of Canaan Partners India

Alok Mittal is the executive director at Canaan Partners India office. Canaan along with Yahoo recently invested about $8.6 million in Bharat Matrimony, an Indian match-making site. Alok is also a board member of Bharat Matrimony.

I caught up with Alok while on a visit to Silicon Valley in California. In this interview Alok talks about Canaan Partners India's investment strategy and their broad areas of investment. Some of these investment areas include Telecom and Mobile, as well as emerging technologies. He also talks about the typical levels of investment that Canaan plans to make in Indian companies. Canaan will follow a mixed investment strategy and that includes some amount of seed investments points out Alok.

Canaan's previous investments in India include Aztec software and e4e.

 

Alok is also part of a small group of venture capitalists known as the Band of Angels in India. So far the group has invested in five start-ups in seed round of funding.

Prior to joining Canaan, Alok led the technology practice at Baring Private Equity Partners, India. Before turning into an investor Alok was an entrepreneur and was theco-founder of JobsAhead.com that was acquired by Monster for about $9 million in 2004.
